The design of the house depends on the people who live in it. Designers need to consider what homeowners do for a living and what specific activities they love. That way, the house will suit them perfectly.
But that’s not all.
It is also important to consider the number of people who will inhabit the house and who will be visiting . Yes, visits to family and friends should also be taken into account.
Why is it important?
Imagine that. A family of four lives in a small, one-story house with limited outdoor space. But they have so many friends and relatives who come over weekly to celebrate or just chat. Where will they entertain the guests? When about five or more people come, just imagine how tight the room will be! Do you think everyone will enjoy their home visit? Apparently no.
So it is important that designers also investigate the activities and visitors that come to the homeowner’s home. Just like what FBM Architects did with the house we’re about to unveil today.
Although it was designed for an elderly couple, their relatives and family visit them constantly. Because of this, they needed some space for them.
In response, FBM Architects came up with a simple but practical design of their contemporary home. Check it out below:

This new one modern home sits in a meadow in Scotch Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada.
It was designed for an active couple in their seventies who are always visited by their family. For this reason, the design focuses on family events and nature.
The project consists of the main house and an outbuilding that contains an apartment and a workshop. The roof of the house extends at the end of the main house to form a pergola for an outside terrace.
This house is in a meadow on the edge of the ocean.
The location offers a spectacular view of Graves Island and the Tancooks, which is ideal for the retired couple and their extended family. Green roofs visible from the studio connect the house with its meadow location.
The project consists of the main house and a guest studio / garage. The glued laminated timber structure that emerges from the inside of the house gives you a glimpse of the dramatic sea view.
The north facade has a service core with cupboards, pantry and service rooms, so that the south and east facades remain free The view.
For those who like to spend time outdoors, there is a pergola with a seating area.
In addition to the beautiful ocean views, you can also spend a great time with the family here at nightly barbecues.
This is the dining area that is behind the living room. It has floor-to-ceiling windows with ocean views. Separate tables have been set up so one can be used as a game table and the other as a dining table.
There are several doors that open to the outside areas.
The dramatic view unfolds along the south and east elevations from inside the house. The concrete floor inside extends to a spacious patio. There is also a stone element that houses the indoor and outdoor fireplace.
This creates a visual connection between the indoor and outdoor seating areas.
Inside the main house is a large open space that contains the living room, dining area and kitchen. A stone fireplace surround with built-in firewood storage gives the room a natural aura.
Behind is a small sitting area and the hallway that leads to the bedrooms and bathrooms.
The kitchen has minimalist white cabinets that combine with wooden counters to create a modern look. Well, as we always say, when wood and white are combined it will undoubtedly look great!
And there’s no denying that because this kitchen proves the beauty of that combination.
Seen here a photo of the wooden posts and beams used in the structure of the house.
Although there were few photos of the interior of the house, we were certainly an indication how beautiful the rest of the house looks. It is evident that FBM Architects did a great job on the interior and exterior of the house. The overall result is so amazing in that it provided a cozy home for the retired couple and their family.
What made this house even better was that it accommodated the activities of the owners and their host family. You can only imagine the joy of the grandchildren walking around the outside of the house while the adults have fun inside or on the pergola.
The location is also a big plus for the attractiveness of the home. Surely you would like to live in such a house!
